Under the Sea

This week we learned all about the creatures under the sea.  This was a really fun unit and just what we needed to get pumped for summer!

We read many wonderful books to learn interesting facts about sea creatures.  The students loved reading these books and could not wait to learn something new about the ocean each day.

 Cute octopus handprints

 Coral reef puzzle

 Ocean dominos

"Gone Fishing" game - Students used the fishing pole to collect all the numbers for their fishing boat.  Definitely a class favorite!

Sink or float?  Students tested different objects to determine if they would sink or float.  Of course, exploring in water is always fun.

 "Go Fish" card game

Another sea creature we explored was the seahorse.  Here are some cute crafts to go along with our learning.

Practicing number and color words with this fun beach ball writing activity.

Edible ocean!  The students used blue jello (ocean water) and put in some fish (Swedish fish candy), topped off with sand (crushed graham crackers), and put some vacationers in floats on top (teddy grahams in gummy life-savers).

Making some sweet crafts for our mom's for "Mother's Day".

This week was "Teacher Appreciation Week".  We showed our appreciation to the cafeteria staff...

 And to Nurse Katie.

THANK YOU!!!  Everyone was so thoughtful and kind and brought me the sweetest gifts and cards this week for "Teacher Appreciation".  Your kind words meant so much, thank you for making me feel so special!

Fun and Busy Week!!

We have had a fun and busy week in Kindergarten! We had many fun activities on our agenda. We created crafts for Mother's Day, celebrated "Cinco de Mayo", learned about our solar system and ended the week with "Field Day!" Whew! It was a week full of excitement!

The students are all blessed with wonderful mothers. They are thankful for the many great things their moms do for them everyday. Click on the video below and listen as the students share their appreciation for their mothers.

The end of school is quickly approaching! There are many signs that summer is fast approaching, one of these signs is that our crayon boxes begin to look very used. So we decided to make a new creation from these old crayons. After peeling crayons for what seemed like days....

Still peeling the paper....

We melted the crayon pieces and...

New "rainbow" crayons for everyone!

This week our unit was "Space." We learned many interested facts about our solar system and planets. The students enjoyed learning about how cool our universe really is!

Making astronaut collages

Creating a launch pad on the carpet

As we learned interesting facts about each of the planets, the students chose their favorite planet and wrote about it in their journals.

Planet and moon patterns

Solar System Pictures

We also learned about the life of stars and the different types of stars. We learned that there are yellow, red, and blue stars, each having unique characteristics. The students chose their favorite star, then used jelly on star shaped bread to re-create their favorite colored star.

Also, this week we celebrate "Cinco de Mayo!" What a fun day!! We practiced saying a few Spanish words and discussed some Mexican traditions.

Our Cinco de Mayo Fiesta!!

Busting the pinata!

We ended our fun week with "Field Day" on Friday! It was all fun in the sun!

Field Day began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for our "Project Fit America" fitness equipment we received this year.

Then the games began, we played in many fun relay races and team events. It was a lot of fun and everyone had great team spirit. A special thank you to all the parents and grandparents that helped us with field day. We appreciate your help and support, you all made our day extra fun!

We also made some cards and candy for our sweet cafeteria workers to thank them for all they do for us throughout the school year.
