Spring and Plants

What a fun week back from Spring Break!  This week we learned the "sneaky e" rule in phonics.  The students made sneaky e puppets to practice this new rule during phonics.  We also acted out the "sneaky e" rule each day, what a fun phonics rule!

Morgyn brought kite brownies, kite is a sneaky e word!!

We read many wonderful books.  We especially enjoyed this books about the Spring weather and clouds.  We are hoping for some pretty days next week, the rain kept us inside most of the week.  But we learned that the rain is an important part of Spring, watering all the plants.

We loved this book "Where Do Balloons Go?" by Jamie Lee Curis

Inspired by all of the fun reading, we made hot air balloons.  We used an art technique we called "cloud painting" to decorate the balloons.  It was really shaving cream and paint, but our imaginations pretended it was clouds.

Everyone enjoyed learning about how plants grow.  We read many wonderful books and used the Internet as a resource to learn about how a seed becomes a plant.  The students made a booklet of all of the information they learned throughout the week.  They will use the booklet to do some great writing about plants in the week to come.

Everyone enjoyed making their own flowers, using their hands and feet as petals and leaves.

Our hallway looks like a beautiful Spring garden.

On Friday, the students planted ryegrass seeds.

Here are the beginnings of our plants.  We will make sure to water them throughout the weeks and look forward to seeing them grow!

In a few weeks we will do a unit on insects, we'll learn all about their life cycles and important jobs to our environment.  But for an extra fun craft the students made butterflies to decorate the classroom.

Charleigh found a caterpillar and brought him for show-and-tell.

The students made owls to decorate our door, "Whooo's ready for summer?".
