Presidents!

We had a super fun week in Kindergarten.  The thematic unit was "Presidents", we had begun to learn about United States Presidents last week and continued the fun this week.

Our class held a class election, the students nominated presidential candidates, the candidates campaigned, gave speeches and then the class voted and elected a president.  Learning is so fun!  Watch the video to see everyone in action!

We also learned many wonderful facts about the Presidents.  We played a game of "President Trivia" to test our knowledge.  Watch the video and enjoy!

Friends helped the candidates paint campaign signs for the election.

After hearing speeches from both candidates, it was time for the big vote.  To the polls we go!

It was a tight race, but after the votes had been counted, Bo Ashley, was elected president.  Austin was a gracious runner-up, great job EVERYONE!!!

One of President Ashley's campaign promises was that he would give ice cream cones to everyone if he was elected, he held up his end of the bargain!  Ice cream for all!

We have also been learning about money.  We have been working hard to learn the attributes of the penny, nickel, dime and quarter.  We sorted their attributes and made maps for us to hang in our class to reference as we continue to learn about money.

Flipping a penny and recording "heads" or "tails".

Fun U.S. President app on the iPad.

George  Washington

We also learned about the national bird, the bald eagle.

A fun fact we discovered was the Abraham Lincoln was the tallest President.  The students measured themselves beside a drawing of President Lincoln.

We read many great books to teach us about our wonderful Presidents.

Earlier in the week we celebrated Mardi Gras!!

 And enjoyed 3 King Cakes!!

 Which means....three babies were hiding!
Cody found one!

 Joseph found another!

 And Emma found one too!

Thanks, Jace, for bringing everyone Mardi Gras beads!
