Spring and Plants

Welcome back from Spring Break!  This week we learned about Spring and plants.  We enjoyed the beautiful Spring weather and are all ready for the great things this new season has in store.

We made butterflies and next week when we learn more about insects we will explore these great bugs even more!

We decorated our hallways with flowers, everyone made a large handprint flower and used their footprints for the leaves.  They turned out great!  Our hallway is lined with beautiful flowers, it looks like a real Kinder-"garden"!

We read two great books about clouds.  We also learned that clouds produce rain which waters the plants.  We enjoyed the stories these books told about using your imagination to discover wonderful cloud formations in the sky.

We took a trip outside to see if we could find some cool clouds for ourselves!

Then we made our own cloud formations!
Here the students saw "a Star Wars ship, but on the good side", "a popsicle", and "a skeleton".

More clouds, "a sheep" and "a butterfly".

We also wrote sentences that told our favorite things about Spring.

Students enjoyed "Tasting the Rainbow", they graphed the Skittle colors in a their bag.  Then taste tested the flavors and graphed their favorite flavors as a class.

Another great book was "Where Do Balloons Go?" by Jamie Lee Curtis.  We loved this book and it inspired our hot air balloon activity.

In addition to having all this fun, we also learned about the life cycle of plants.  The book "The Tiny Seed" by Eric Carle was a wonderful resource.

Labeling the parts of a plant.

The life cycle of a seed.

We also planted some flower seeds of our own!  This was our most fun activity of the week.  The students did a wonderful job working in groups to complete the garden project.  We planted zinnias, dahlias, and marigolds.  We look forward to watering and caring for the seeds in the weeks to come, and we hope to see some flowers pop through very soon!

Danial, Tyler, Andrea, and Nely all received special recognition for perfect attendance for the third nine weeks.
