While we were still at school we all thought that you needed to practice reading over the summer so you would be ready to be a great reader in first grade. I found this fun website to help you all do that, www.scholastic.com/summerreading
Check it out for some cool ideas for summer reading. They have a list of books that you can read, I listed a few of them below.
- The Best School Year Ever, by Barbara Robinson
- Clifford (series)
- Biscuit (series), by Alyssa Satain Capucilli
- 1, 2, 3 to the Zoo, by Eric Carle
- Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed, by Eileen Christelow
- Beach, by Elisha Cooper
- Farm, by Elisha Cooper
- Ladybug Girl, Jacky Davis and David Soman
- Bumblebee Boy, Jacky Davis and David Soman
- What Pet to Get?, by Emma Dodd
- Gilbert the Surfer Dude, by Diane deGroat
- Bats at the Beach, by Brian Lies
- Froggy Goes to Camp, by Jonathan London
Also, read your phonics readers that you worked on throughout the school year and practice your sight words. And have some fun and write some of your own sentences too and maybe even write and illustrate your own story!!
Have a wonderful summer!! Love you all!!
After I posted the reading list, I got this nice email from the author of "Bats at the Beach", Brian Lies.
"Dear Ms. Marzoni-
Thanks for listing BATS AT THE BEACH in your summer reading list! I
hope your students will all get out to the library this summer and
read for the fun of it.
Batty wishes,
Brian Lies
BATS AT THE BEACH
