The Magnolia State

This week we learned about our great state, Mississippi. The first thing the students wanted to learn was how to spell Mississippi. It didn't take them long to learn and they were soon seeing who could spell it the fastest! The students learned many great facts about our state, we made a broadcast from our class. Check it out below!!

Throughout the week we did many Mississippi inspired crafts. Here students created a magnolia flower, the state flower of the "Magnolia State."

We then found our hometown, Purvis, on a map of Mississippi.

The state insect is the honeybee. Students create their own buzzing insects.

The Gulf Coast has many wonderful resources to offer our state. We learned about this and also about the lighthouses that border our coast and help the boats in the Gulf of Mexico.

A Mississippi feast! Mississippi Mud Cake, Pecan Pie and Barq's Root Beer - Mud Cake, like the rich soil of the Delta; Pecan pie, to represent the many pecan trees across the state; Barq's Rootbeer - first bottled in Mississippi

On Friday, the students performed the Kindergarten Musical. All the Kindergarteners participated and did a wonderful job. Students dressed as their favorite storybook character.

Little Boy Blue, a pirate, and a Billy Goat from Billy Goat's Gruff

Sleeping Beauty, Belle, and a Princess

Little Bo Peep, Fiona from Shrek, and Little Miss Muffet
